The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest achievement in Girl Scouting and equivalent to the Eagle Scout Award.
For my project, I collected donations from local groups and businesses for Nuevos Horizontes, one of two women's shelters in Guatemala, as requested by the shelter coordinator.
At the shelter, I taught the women and children how to make their own fleece blankets. I also spoke to the Guatemalan women about their experiences with domestic violence.
When I returned to the US, I organized an event for local Girl Scout troops and presented my findings. The event included guest speakers (a domestic violence counselor and my Girl Scout Leader) and activities that enabled attendees to receive a merit badge.
